Free Business Grants

With many people now deciding to take their fate into their own hands and setting up business for themselves, it's useful to know that the financial implications of such a venture can be aided by a variety of methods. One such way is by a free business grant from the government, which provides extra funds that you may need.

There are many different kinds available, depending on the feasibility of your business proposal. The Department of Homeland Security, or DHS provides one of these methods. If your idea is chosen as being sufficiently innovative and security-conscious, then you will be applicable for a grant of $100,00. This can be used to fund the research needed to convince any investors of the various benefits of your idea. If fully approved, you will then be awarded a further $750,000 spread over two years.

The DHS itself is funded by yet another agency, the Small Business Innovation Research. However, to qualify for any free business grants from these benefactors, there are strict guidelines you must adhere to – not only must you be a US-based business, you must also have no more than 500 employees within your organization. There are also specific areas where your research must be focussed: information technology, marine security, and chemical and biological defence.

Even of you don't qualify for these types of aid, there are other options available to you, most noticeably through your local federal governing offices. However, this is not a widespread service yet, and can only be found in the states of Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Utah and New Hampshire. If you don't have your business in these areas, you can still apply for federal help – you just won't receive any free grants, although your business will be applicable for financial aid and other support.

One such department set up to advise in this particular area is the Small Business Administration, or SBA. Helping businesses for over 50 years now, although it doesn't offer free business grants per se, they do offer excellent advice to any new business. Whether it's helping to grow your idea from scratch to offering a loan to help you realise your dream, the SBA has offices in every US state and as such is an excellent alternative should you not qualify for the free grants.

With any economy being driven by the success of its business, then the more diversity in this area the better. With certain types of industry struggling, any new business should be applauded and given all the help it can to succeed. With a free business grant or similar, new franchises and ideas have just the kind of stepping-stone they need.
